The A's on Friday announced that they won't exercise their $3 million option on left-hander Alan Embree for the 2009 season. Embree is now eligible to test the free agent waters, as is designated hitter Frank Thomas. Oakland also claimed infielder Joe Dillon on waivers from the Brewers.
